Dust Off Those Books on Your Shelf

January 21st, 2010

The digital age is upon us (ahem) and publishing is becoming more expensive. In this struggling economy, ad sales are down and it’s proved too much for publishers to withstand. Gourmet Magazine (after 70 years), I.D. Magazine (after 55 years), Jane Magazine, and a slew of others have all folded. Why buy a magazine when you can get all of the content online for free? And not have to deal with disposal/recycling/waste buildup? (I myself I have over a years worth of Bon Appétit sitting right next to me.) New content can be pushed daily, or eve... MORE

Custom Munny: R50 Munny Part 3

January 9th, 2010

Now that I’m on the “custom vinyl toy creation” bandwagon, I really wanted to test out some paint markers, so I made this little guy. And… I really hate paint markers. I tried two different types: Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Markers: I feel like even with an Extra Fine Point, the tip is still too large. The paint flow was alright, a bit bumpy on the Munny’s surface though. I didn’t have the precession I would have wanted.  It’s just really frustrating when I can’t achieve the kind of precision and ... MORE

Christmas Cookies 2009

December 22nd, 2009

Since I was a toddler, one Saturday towards the end of December, my mother would bake all day, making cookies to give away to family and friends. She started out with about four cookie recipes. Over the years we tried a few new ones – some stuck, some were abandoned (though all were amended… We change recipes. It’s what we do). We are now up to ten varieties. Yes, that was not a typo, ten varieties of cookies. I don’t think the batch can grow any larger, but we have said that before. I do most of the baking now, so unless ... MORE

Custom Munny: Tribute to Tilt: Part 3

December 9th, 2009

I finally completed my first custom Munny. (Tribute to Tilt) Hooray! OK, so there are a bunch of problems, it’s not perfect, but overall it came out pretty nice. I’ve got to give myself a little credit. I’m new at toy customization, and I’ve never used an airbrush before today. Sure, I made a lot of mistakes, but I’m looking to find out the error of my ways. Few things I’ve learned already… Give light coats (thin mist) and let each coat them dry thoroughly between applications. Do not overcoat. Do not... MORE
